Gwilym has long been an admirer of Pablo Held but they have never played together. Both were very much influenced by the late John Taylor. This year they will be teaming up at the Steinway Festival on Tuesday 19th March at Pizza Express Jazz Club.

Gwilym is delighted that again his band will back the finalists in this year’s BBC Young Jazz Musician. This year it will be part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.
This year’s finalists will perform with Gwilym, jazz bassist and composer Paula Gardiner and jazz drummer and composer Asaf Sirkis.
Gwilym will play a set with vibraphonist Joe Locke at Kings Place on 5th September before the album launch of a new album out on Basho “Hourglass” featuring new music by Austrian composer Johannes Berauer. Gwilym also features in the Hourglass quintet together with Mike Walker on guitar, Thomas Gould on violin, Martin Berauer on electric bass and Bernard Schimpelsberger on percussion and drums.

Gwilym played a solo concert at the incredible Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris on 3rd May 2018. The spectacular building was designed by Frank Gehry and was opened in 2014 as a cultural centre for the citizens of Paris.

Gwilym’s recent release with Kizzy Crawford and Sinfonia Cymru has been getting some great reviews. 5 stars in BBC Music Magazine who called the album “a simply beautiful concept daringly executed”. Peter Quinn in Jazzwise called the album “one of the year’s most beautiful, surprising and joyous releases”.
